Mining Letter-Telegraph Correspondence with A.E. Carlton of Cripple Creek Colorado 1903

This is a set of three documents with correspondence between A.E. Carlton of Cripple Creek Colorado and W.P. Dunham of Washington D.C. The letter appears to be asking for a transfer of funds to a bank in Pittsburg Pennsylvania that is linked to the First National Bank of Cripple Creek and A.E. Carlton. The letter says its for a gold bearing mine and is for $32,000. The letter is dated on December 8th 1903 and a one of the telegraphs is from A.E. Carlton saying it would be impossible to take on new business. The second telegraph appears to be asking about a payment to A.E. Carlton.

A.E. Carlton was nicknamed the “ King of Cripple Creek” and was know for investments in mining, banks, and railroad. At one point A.E. Carlton owned a significant portion of the mines in the Cripple Creek Mining District.

Letter Dimensions: 10 ¼” by 8”

Telegraph dimensions: Both are 7 ½” by 5 ¼”

Condition of the Set (8/10) Good Overall. The letter has some minor stains and small rips at the folds. Mending tissue was used to repair a 1” tear on the back of the letter. The Commercial Cable Company telegraph is in good condition with some staining and has folds. The Western Union Telegraph has some staining and the bottom right has a 1” tear that was repaired with mending tissue on the back.
